Environmental
Sustainability Team

Imagine an Arizona where everyone collaborates to create and sustain thriving, livable communities and a healthy environment for generations to come.

That’s the vision of the Environmental Sustainability Team. Our goal is to achieve net zero carbon by 2050 and meet federal clean air standards.

To Do Items

Signing on to Arizona Thrives, collaborating to identify pertinent initiatives our Impact Team can engage with.

This team participates in two of the Arizona Thrives’ strategy groups – Where We Live and Work and How We Move.

The team has also created a landscape map of companies across the state who have made carbon reduction goals. Using the map, they are identifying novel solutions to encourage business collaboration around various sustainability initiatives.

Expanding greater Phoenix’s shade capacity to limit heat stress on people in public places.

Heat was responsible for more than 300 deaths in Maricopa County in 2020, and the number of heat deaths has been steadily increasing since 2015. This team is focused on expanding greater Phoenix’s shade capacity, and seek to scale the city’s Cool Corridors Program by working with community partners to secure additional funding for tree plantings in pathways that link Cool Corridors together.

In 2021, the team was also vocal in support of the creation of the City of Phoenix’s new Office of Heat Response and Mitigation and the city’s Climate Action Plan.
